Editorial policy
These are the rules we hold ourselves to. They exist because the subject attracts confident writing that is not backed by anything, and because a reader with a worrying letter deserves to know exactly where a statement came from.
Sourcing
- General explanations of liens, notices, and consumer rights are grounded in government and court sources — recorders and clerks of court, the IRS, the CFPB, and the FTC — and those sources are linked at the foot of the page.
- Statements about a specific company are attributed to that company’s own published material, labelled as company statements, and dated. We link to the official source so you can read it yourself.
- Where we could not verify something, we say so on the page rather than leaving a confident gap.
Labelling jurisdiction
Lien law is state law. Where guidance depends on the state or the lien type, the page says so and directs you to the relevant state office or statute. We deliberately do not publish state-by-state deadline tables: a stale deadline is more harmful than no deadline.
What we will not publish
- Fabricated testimonials, reviews, ratings, or user counts.
- Invented authors, credentials, or claimed expertise.
- Accreditation badges or trust seals we have not earned.
- Blanket verdicts such as “100% legitimate” or “confirmed scam” about a company, which we are not in a position to make.
- Guarantees that a lien will be removed, reduced, or that any payment outcome will follow.
- Private notice URLs, access codes, document images containing personal details, or any real recipient’s information.
Independence
No company pays for coverage, placement, or wording on this site, and we carry no ads, sponsorships, or affiliate links. If that ever changes, the disclosure on the About page and beside any affected recommendation will change first, before the content does.
Review and dating
Pages describing a company are re-checked against the source when we update them, and the review month appears on the page. Third-party sites change wording without notice, so an outdated summary is possible; the linked source always takes priority over our paraphrase.
Corrections
Errors of fact are corrected as soon as we can confirm the correct position, and material changes are noted on the page. If you are the subject of a page and believe it is inaccurate, send the correction with a source and we will review it.
AI and automation
Drafting tools may be used, but every factual claim on this site is checked against the linked source before publication, and anything that cannot be checked is either removed or marked as unverified.
Limits
This site is not legal advice and cannot assess your letter, your lien, or your rights. Nothing here creates an attorney–client relationship. For advice, consult a licensed attorney in the state where the filing was recorded.
